Uncle Alvarez!

I'm not somebody who thinks that the lo-fi of Liz Phair somehow trumps her slicker stuff, just because it was lo-fi. I liked the Liz Phair album a lot, notwithstanding the bloggers savaging it.

Thanks to Lupner, I went back to WhiteChocolateSpaceEgg. I think lately I like Ms. Phair best when she's sonically refined, but still somehow awkward and . . . homemade. That's how I feel about "Uncle Alvarez" -- that damned tune works for me, Starbux or no . . .

Complaint here is not about hi-fi per se. Just the bleedin' song or two that sound, well, too ordinary for LP . . .

Had I been speaking English rather than Dubsterspeak, I would have said that I don't care how polished the recording production sounds, I prefer her slightly awkward, not fully polished songwriting...

or something like that.

"Uncle Alvarez" might be my favorite Liz Phair Song. And this from a guy who passionately loves both Girlysounds [ultra lo-fi]and Liz Phair [ultra-commercial] beyond reason.....
