No Burger King here . . . .

About a year ago, a very wise person [who is a psychologist and counsellor] informed me that 95% of the unhappiness she saw, and about 90% of her entire practice, emerged from the individual's pain and inability to deal with not having things their way.

Things that they can't control.

Like -- EVERYTHING except their own actions.

If boss / girlfriend / garage door opener / microphone / legislature / appendix would JUST fill in the blank here, why, by god, they'd be happy. their life would be better. Things would be fixed.

her practice is devoted almost entirely to helping and people learn, and flourish, with the notion that they don't get things to be the way they want.

this made an impression on me

remembering this lesson every moment of every day has helped me lead a better, happier life.

when i foregt it, then things go south . . .

And when that fails, I find that pictures of Elisha Cuthbert in skimpy underwear help, too.

amen.

a while ago, one of my friends and i were having a conversation...

me: he/she/it makes me so angry
him: nothing makes you angry. you allow it to happen. you allow yourself to get angered by a situation.

that's my new mantra.
